When can we stain/paint the wood?

Immediately after construction is fine. Paint technology has rapidly improved over the years and with the proper application, most wood surfaces can be finished immediately after installation. Many of our customers’ previous decks have been sealed with bad painting application practices and we at DECK5 understand our customers’ concern. That is why, a month drying period can be coordinated with our recommended local paint subcontractors, so that your brand new deck is dried in and shined up nicely.

Can we waterproof the underside of the deck?

Yes, here at DECK5 we recommend an invasive, but unparalleled waterproofing system which insulates the deck joists- protecting them from an increased rate of rot which occurs in the drain collection process. Lesser underside deck waterproof systems that are on the market can lead to serious structural issues prematurely.

Does Ipe/ Brazilian hardwood need maintenance?

No, however, if you have a nice car you may find enjoyment in seeing it sparkly clean. If that is you: an annual or biannual cleaning by an experienced deck company is recommended. Wood looks better wet and Ipe or Brazilian hardwood decking has a lasting glow after an annual oiling.

Is my deck maintenance free?

All decks are maintenance free. However, all products will fade in direct sunlight and dirt and grime will build up anywhere it may lay. The simple fixes are as follows: Trex decks need pressure washed, Brazilian wood decks need oiling and pressure treated pine needs scrubbed and rinsed. That is why, if you desire a maintenance free deck- that also sparkles like new- Brazilian hard wood decking may be suited for you.
